Chris Skipper-Conway, grew up in South Africa, a qualified accountant with Public and Private sectors experience and 20 years’ specialisation in IT recruitment. Chris owns GMT People, a national IT recruitment company, is Chair of VIC ICT for Women where she promotes and supporting gender diversity and has been recognised through the following – 2017 APSCo Social Responsibility Award recipient, 2013 Vic ICT Women of the Year and a Public Service Merit Award. Her satisfaction comes from helping others achieve and thrives most when combining her GMT role with her passion for promoting diversity inclusion at Vic ICT for Women. Chris recently presented on Diversity in IT at the United Nations CSW62 conference in New York.
She is passionate about equal opportunity stems having grown up in South Africa when minority groups were privileged, and an overwhelming proportion of the population were discriminated against. Given her accounting and recruitment background Chris understands that IT and the people with the right skills is critical in business and has combined these two aspects throughout her career. She has worked in the US in Recruitment and Consulting, has been CEO for an IT Managed Services provider and in 2009 she returned to her passion – recruitment. In 2012 she was appointed CEO for GMT People and purchased the business later that year. Given her interest in gender diversity and the lack of female representation in IT she joined Vic ICT for Women to make a difference to the imbalance in IT. Her business is based on values of equality, integrity and empathy and as Chairperson of Vic ICT for Women she takes these values and make a much larger impact on the gender diversity issue generally.
