Leading a transformation to a strategic portfolio model of investment
Michael Clark currently leads Technology and Innovation at the Fair Work Ombudsman. He took over in October 2015 to bring together three separate business areas – Project Management, IT and Digital Transformation. It’s been a successful journey to date in merging and building a common purpose and transforming their approach to projects and delivery. He has lead a complete rebuild of their PMO, embedded Agile into their Project Management Framework, delivered mainstream projects using Agile. This transformation over-hauled their Governance to move from an ad-hoc project-centric monthly approval process to a Portfolio and Program based model with bi-annual approval cycles which is based on consideration of the strategic priorities. During this period, they manage to improve both employee and customer satisfaction.
Michael will be sharing the lessons and experiences from this transformation, in lifting the success of FWO in the strategic alignment of priorities and delivery of ongoing business transformation driven by technology. Much of FWO’s success in the past 2 years is tied to successfully prioritising the right projects for delivery and then delivering them.
